IP Rating
You have seen many electronic devices, especially mobile phones where it is mentioned that the mobile is IP67, IP68, IPX8, IP53, certified etc. But what does it mean? We will try to explain below.
Ingress Protection Rating or IP Rating is a way to know the degree of protection of an electronic device from liquid and solid. IP rating is written as below
IP67
The 1st number refers to the ingress of solid, especially dust particles. How the electronic device is protected against dust particles. The number ranges from 1 to 6. 1 is lowest and 6 is the highest. 6 means no dust particles can enter your device.
The 2nd number refers to the ingress of liquid. It ranges from 1 to 8. 1 being the lowest and 8 the highest. 8 means water cannot enter your device.
So, IP68 is the highest level of IP rating and IP11 is the lowest level. IPX8 means only liquid protection.
